Let Your Products Shine with Joyful Design

ART LICENSING MADE EASY

Why Licensing Might Be Perfect for You

If you’re a business owner looking to bring more personality, color, and charm to your products — without hiring a full-time designer — you’re in the right place. I’m Sandra, the artist behind Sandra Hutter Designs, and I offer friendly, flexible art licensing tailored to creative brands like yours.

Whether you’re just starting out or already have a product line, licensing existing designs (or collaborating on something custom) can be the simplest way to stand out — no overwhelm required.

What Is Art Licensing?

Art licensing means you get the rights to use artwork on your products — without buying the copyright or hiring an in-house designer. You can license one of my existing surface pattern designs or work with me to create something custom. The artwork stays mine, but you get permission to use it under clear, friendly terms.

Here are the Two Types of Licensing I Offer:

Non-Exclusive License

Use the design for a certain period on your product (I may license it to others too)

Exclusive License

You get exclusive rights for a certain period, product category, and territory.

(Not sure what’s right for you? I’m happy to guide you.)

FAQs About Art Licensing

  • Not at all! I’ve created a super simple process to guide you every step of the way. You don’t need any prior experience.

  • If you're licensing an existing design, it can be almost immediate. I always send out design files within 24 hours after I receive payment. Custom collaborations typically take 2–8 weeks, depending on your needs and my schedule.

  • Licensing fees depend on the type of product, the scale of your business, and whether you need exclusive or non-exclusive rights. I’m always transparent with pricing and happy to offer affordable options for small businesses. Non-exclusive licenses often range a few hundred dollars and up, while exclusives are higher. I’ll work with you to find an arrangement that fits your budget. I typically work on a one-time flat licensing fee (no complicated royalties for you), calculated based on your production volume and usage.

  • In most cases, no. I offer a one-time flat fee for simplicity. But if you'd prefer a royalty-based structure, I’m open to discussing it.

  • That’s no problem. You can always upgrade to an exclusive license or renew when the time comes.

  • Absolutely! We’ll just agree on the terms that make the most sense for your market.

  • Yes, non-exclusive means others may also license the same design for a similar product category.

  • I can adjust colors or small elements, and even add custom details to better fit your product. Some small changes are included; larger edits may involve a fee.

  • I retain the copyright by default — that means I can reuse or relicense the design after your license expires. This also keeps your costs down. But if you'd like full ownership, I also offer exclusive licenses or, in some cases, full buyouts. Think of licensing like renting a beautiful design — buying the house is optional.

  • No problem — that’s part of the process! I’ll guide you through style, color, and motif options based on your product idea.

  • Yes, just let me know what you have in mind. We’ll define those usage rights clearly in your license.

  • Not necessarily, unless agreed upon. Many clients include a “designed by Sandra Hutter” tag, but it’s not a requirement unless specified.

  • Yes! I love sharing new collaborations with my audience. With your permission, I’ll happily feature your product on my Instagram (33K+ followers), Pinterest (900k+ monthly views), and in my monthly newsletter.

  • Yes — if you need help visualizing how the design will look on your product, I can create mockups or even suggest colorways that fit your brand.

  • My art has been licensed on everything from puzzles, greeting cards, and stationery to home textiles, kitchen accessories, and apparel.

  • Yes — for large-scale or international projects, Sandra is represented by Jewel Branding & Licensing. For smaller or boutique projects, you’ll work with Sandra directly.

If you’re dreaming of colorful, character-filled designs that make your products pop — licensing might be the easiest step you take this year.
